Friends,
After we learned Leo was ok, we went out for a night on the town in Saigon (for the most part Saigon is what everyone calls it, not Ho Chi Minh City). Let's just say, it's not our favorite place. This morning we took off for the beach. We rented a motorbike, packed a few things into one bag and headed northeast. After almost being killed by a bus (seriously dave has a scrape on his elbow where we sideswiped a bus; he asked me to note that the bus ran into us not the other way around. ps, mom, we were wearing helmets.) we finally made it the 127km to Long Hai and found this awesome 4star resort right on the ocean. So, in order to rent the motorbike and leave the rest of our bags at the hotel we had to also leave our pasports there, when we arrived in Long Hai we checked out the local resorts and picked the Long Hai Beach Club (www.longhaibeachresort.com); all was cool until they told us that they needed our original pasports, which are in Saigon, in order to get a room. We sat in the lobby and pouted for about 30 minutes until "management" walked in (with an entourage of potential las vegas investors) and we told them we were from California. They decided to accept our photocopy of the passports after learning we were from California. There are about 10 other guests in this resort that could probably hold 200 (80 suites and 12 villas that cost $2000 USD a night). This is by far the best place we've ever stayed in our lives, and we are paying about the same rate as we've paid for crapholes in San Francisco. We're going to stay here 3 nights, and then try to make the crossing into Cambodia. More to come. We'll take some pictures tomorrow. PS: we've decided that we might have a destination wedding here, so friends and family start saving for the plane flight.
Love,
Laura and Dave
